  Joe always said, 'People are my Religion' as was shown in his selfless caring and giving to others. He joined his mother in the operation of Depot Grocery on 25th Street in 1923. In 1932 they moved Depot Grocery to West Weber and continued to operate it with his brother Fred, until 1972. Joe loved baseball and was a member of the A League in Ogden and sponsored the team himself. He liked to bowl, fly fish, hunt and play the mandolin.
