- Joe was born in Ogden, Utah to Anna and Oreste Piz. His early years were spent on his Uncle Jack’s farm in Diamondville, Wy.. Joe moved to Denver at age five after his parents established an Italian bakery “Mothers Home Bakery”. He learned to be a baker from his father Oreste and worked before and after school in the family business. In the spring of 1942 at age 17, Joe enlisted in the Navy and later transferred to the Merchant Marines as an officer. After WWII Joe and his brother Bob acquired Mothers Home Bakery from his father. He sold the bakery in 1973 and started several other businesses including “A-1 Metal Stripping”. In 1974 Joe purchased a farm in Platteville, CO.
Joe had a passion for fast cars, Street Rods, Racing Quarter Horses and loved to Polka Dance with his wife Louise. A few of Joes accomplishments Western Sates Cutting Horse Champion, Officer Jefferson County Posse, President Red and White Polka Club, Inducted into the Quarter Horse Hall of Fame, several show winning street rods and more Quarter Horse Futurity and Derby Winners to list.
Husband of the late Louise (Zancanelli) Piz and WWII Naval Veteran. Survived by CHILDREN Dale Piz, Windsor & Pam Mascareñas, Arvada. Granddaughters Amanda, Christina, and Julianna Piz, Windsor. Brother Ed Piz, Englewood. Preceded in death by brother Bob, daughter in-law Jane and parents Anna and Oreste.
