Flora's son George wrote the following about his mother: "Flora was a compassionate and kindly person and had many friends. She had an unusual insight into people. Many went to her with their problems and sought her advice. She was at ease with everyone, regardless of status in life. Her goodheartedness was well known. For instance, lumberjacks out of work and broke came to her door for food and she gave them odd jobs to ease their embarrassment. Beneath her kind nature was a strong will. Her favorite motto was 'Avanti con Corraggio' (Ahead with Courage).'"
